The Coleman Foundation Announces Fourth Quarter 2018 Developmental Disability Services Grants
In the fourth quarter of 2018, the Coleman Foundation approved grants totaling $300,000 to nonprofit organizations to advance its Developmental Disabilities Impact Plan. Among those receiving grants in this program area are:
$200,000 – Capital Support
El Valor was established to enrich and empower individuals with disabilities via three core programs: Adult Services, Early Childhood and Parental and Community Engagement. Two growing populations include seniors with disabilities and young adults who have aged out of public school services. Services are at risk due to significant deferred maintenance – structural repairs, doors, windows, A.C. and masonry work. These grant funds will augment organizational funds to remediate capital needs
Misericordia Heart of Mercy, IL
$100,000 – General Operating Support.
Misericordia currently serves more than 600 children and adults with mild to profound developmental disabilities who come from diverse racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds. Participants are served by a spectrum of residential options on a 31-acre Chicago campus and in the community, and through a wide program array. Misericordia offers a continuum of care to meet their diverse needs and aspires for each individual to live as independently as possible in the highest level of community integration feasible. Residential settings include: CILAs (Community Integrated Living Arrangements for small groups in neighborhood homes outside Misericordia’s main campus); On-campus apartments; Group homes on-campus and a Skilled Nursing residence. The Coleman Foundation made its first grant to Misericordia in 1981 and was instrumental in the founding of “Candy Days”.
